First, I would conduct a thorough assessment of the existing application, including its architecture, dependencies, and resource requirements. This would involve documenting the application's components, identifying any potential compatibility issues, and estimating the cost of running the application in Azure. Second, I would define a migration strategy based on the assessment results. This would involve choosing the appropriate Azure services (e.g., Azure VMs, Azure App Service, Azure Kubernetes Service) and determining the migration approach (e.g., lift-and-shift, re-platform, re-architect). Third, I would create a detailed migration plan, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies.

Begin by checking the VM's CPU, memory, and disk utilization using Azure Monitor. High resource usage may indicate a bottleneck. Next, examine network latency and bandwidth to rule out network-related issues. Review the VM's event logs for any error messages or warnings that could provide clues. If the issue persists, consider profiling the application running on the VM to identify performance bottlenecks within the code. Tools like Azure Profiler can be helpful. Finally, ensure the VM is properly sized for the workload and consider scaling up or out if necessary.

In a previous project, our team encountered a critical performance issue with an Azure-based data pipeline. My role was to investigate the root cause of the problem and propose a solution. I collaborated with the data engineers and database administrators to analyze the pipeline's architecture, identify performance bottlenecks, and experiment with different optimization techniques.
